Filmmakers Poppy Walker and Sophie Hexter from H.W. Collective who have been selected to work with the community to create a work inspired by Meerschaum Vale hall and its surrounds.

The H.W. Collective makes films: narrative, documentary and commercial projects. Co-founders Poppy Walker and Sophie Hexter are creative storytellers, working collaboratively to produce innovative, compelling and visually arresting motion pictures.

Poppy Walker | is a screenwriter and director. She established Propeller Pictures to create social justice documentary films, including: feature documentary Not So Straight, shorts Sophat and Nasear and Bright Day for Cambodian television, ABC-screened film On Her Shoulders and several advocacy films for clients including: World Vision and Oxfam. Poppy co-founded the film studio H.W Collective with Sophie Hexter, co-writing and directing the short narrative film Hitch and short documentary The Battle, which was selected for Flickerfest’s 2016 documentary competition. Poppy is Schools Program Manager for the Byron Bay Film Festival, holds a BA in Arts (Journalism) from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Documentary from the Victorian College of the Arts.

Sophie Hexter | works internationally as a stylist, writer and director. She has directed TVC’s for the Melbourne Fashion Festival, Chadstone and Dotti, and has worked as a creative consultant on various commercials for clients such as Visa, Pantene, Renault and Myer. Sophie scripted the four-part documentary TV series, The Closet Tales of Australia Fashion, and has worked in development as a writer and consultant on various TV documentary and narrative film scripts. In 2014, Sophie co-founded the multidisciplinary studio, The H.W Collective with Poppy Walker, and made her dramatic short directorial debut with Hitch. She adapted the Commonwealth Prize winning novel, The Anatomy of Wings, for screen and her documentary short The Battle was recently selected to screen in competition at Flickerfest. Sophie holds a BA (Hons) from Monash University and an MA (First) from Oxford University.
